Mine company corruption and murder

Filed under: Environment, Labor — alienatedamerican @ 6:24 pm

Chinese miners, 160 trapped in flooded mine.   Utah, a lesser number of miners now dead inside a coal mine.   Mining everywhere is run by some of the most corrupt capitalist companies around.

In Cananea, Sonora, Mexico, Southern Copper, a US mining company is constantly breaking strikes, shooting down individual miners, and cooperating with drug traffickers via their friends, the local police.  Here is an article that takes a snap shot of this mine and the struggles of its mine workers in 1999, but the killings i this town go on a yearly basis…

Here is Wikipedia on the historical record

There is even an excellent film called ‘Cananea’ that gives some of the mining history of this town located one hour from Douglas, Arizona.   Check it out some day!   And support the miners in their struggle for decent working conditions and safe ecological running of the mines.   Their safety is your safety, too.

Job Corps

Filed under: Labor, Middle East, Military-industrial-police state — alienatedamerican @ 6:52 pm

America passed an ‘Eyes Wide Opened’ landmark at its largest Job Corp facility.    More than 1,000 US contracters have now lost their lives in Iraq due to having their eyes widely closed.    See Labor Department note http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/5035874.html

Wonder, too, how many others are on workers comp?
